As Dog's Paw Brewing prepares to relocate from downtown Elgin to a former fire station near the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, village officials are planning to build a 6,000-square-foot building to store items kept in the old firehouse.

The 60- by 100-foot building would sit in the northeast corner of the Sears Centre's parking lot, costing the arena 41 spaces and the village $890,000 to design and construct, Director of Development Services Peter Gugliotta said.

The village-owned arena and the Hoffman Estates Public Works Department are storing items in part of the former fire station at 2601 Pratum Ave.

Last year, WT Group bought the old firehouse, located next to its headquarters, from the village for $895,000. The engineering consulting firm plans to expand into the 13,000-square-foot building while leaving a portion for the bar and restaurant relocating from Elgin.

Dog's Paw Brewing plans to close its nearly five-year-old location in downtown Elgin at the end of April and reopen as a brewery pub in Hoffman Estates soon after.

Construction of Hoffman Estates' new storage building is intended to stay ahead of those plans and not require the use of any temporary storage location in between, Gugliotta said.

The village board is expected to vote on approval of the new building Monday, Feb. 17, following this week's recommendation by the planning, building & zoning committee.

Designed to tie in architecturally to the Sears Centre next door, the single-story building is tentatively scheduled to begin construction in the middle of March and be completed by the middle of May, Gugliotta said.
