Nicor Energy Ventures, an affiliate of Nicor Gas and subsidiary of Southern Company Gas recently announced a combined investment of $100,000 in two mHUB Chicago Climate and Energy Tech Accelerator startups, blip energy and Hago Energetics.
blip energy develops accessible and portable smart home batteries that act as backup power stations for homeowners and renters.
Hago Energetics creates decarbonization solutions by working with farms to convert methane from food scraps and animal waste into green hydrogen.
Both startups were selected by Nicor Energy Ventures following the six-month accelerator, of which Nicor Gas was a sponsor.
"At Nicor Energy Ventures, we are committed to the growth of our region's clean tech manufacturing sector," said David Poroch, executive vice president and chief financial officer for Southern Company Gas and director for Nicor Energy Ventures. "We are thrilled to support blip energy and Hago Energetics to help advance these technologies, create jobs, and accelerate the clean energy economy."
mHUB, one of the nation's leading independent hardtech and manufacturing innovation centers, launched the Climate and Energy Tech Accelerator program earlier this year to identify early-stage startups committed to creating infrastructure solutions in renewable energy, hydrogen, carbon capture, energy storage and distributed energy sources. Nicor Gas was a sponsor of the program.
